Practical information for shopping in San Sebastián

OPENING HOURS
Shops are open from Monday to Saturday:
10.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.
Shopping malls, such as Garbera and San Martín, open from 10.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.
Most stores are closed on Sundays.
Main shopping areas
Old Quarter
Small traditional stores, souvenir shops, art galleries, shops selling local fashion, gourmet products and Basque crafts. Ideal to come across hidden gems.
Centre / Romantic Area
Home to most of the city’s stores, wide avenues, lively shady pedestrian zones, fashion, luxury, Basque design, perfumeries and century-old shops.
Gros
One of the city’s hot-spots. Urban fashion, surfwear and contemporary art. Young and alternative atmosphere. Perfect to find original gifts and independent retailers.
Antiguo
Quiet neighbourhood with local businesses, organic food, wellbeing and charming family-run shops.

Sales and discounts
Winter sales: start just after Epiphany (6 January).
Summer sales: start around 1 July. Some shops also offer one-off discounts out of season.

Now Tax Free
If you live outside the European Union, you can ask for Tax Free at the shops in the scheme. Ask for the form when you pay and remember to get it stamped by Customs before you leave the country.

Fair Trade
San Sebastián has local brands committed to ethical production, recycled or organic materials and the circular economy. Look for seals such as “Singular dendak” to choose sustainable and local products.
