An attractive journey to the very heart of Basque society from its origins to the present day, featuring valuable heritage and interactive, audiovisual resources.
The largest centre dedicated to interpreting Basque society, located right in the heart of the city’s Old Town, in one of the few buildings that survived the fi re in 1813.
A 16th century Dominican convent renovated in 2011 and extended with daring modern architecture.
Valuable artistic heritage: church with 11 extraordinary canvases (784 m2) by painter Josep M. Sert and a cloister and tower declared National Monuments back in 1913, works by well-known artists: El Greco, Rubens, Tintoretto, Zuloaga, Chillida, Oteiza… and rich historical and ethnographical collections.
An active cultural centre with a wide-ranging programme of temporary exhibitions and activities based around art, history, cinema, music, literature and society.
