The Basque Country has always had a special connection with the sea and sailing, and it comes as no surprise that it was a Basque sailor, Juan Sebastián Elcano, who completed, together with the men of the ship Victoria, the voyage begun by Ferdinand Magellan in 1519. An adventure that ended up being the longest voyage of an era and an expedition that changed history.

This major exhibition, which was presented in 2019 at the General Archive of the Indies in Seville and is exhibited at the San Telmo Museum from 26 June to 24 October, brings together the primary testimonies of this exceptional voyage. It is a way to discover, beyond dates and data, the human side of a group of sailors who dreamt of an impossible route, set off for the unknown, pushed the limits, and returned to transform the course of history by shifting the way the world was seen in their wake.

You can't miss this exciting exhibition that is guaranteed to impress! We also recommend taking some extra time to visit some of the other jewels on display in the San Telmo.
